Summary:
The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for coordinating communications occurring at the Clinic.
The MA is responsible for the paperwork involved with the transcription of orders and registering patients, must keep up with any new or changing registration matters.
The MA works closely with the Patient Access department at the hospital to keep up with current guidelines in the registration process.
The MA receives supervision from the Physician, Practice Manager, and Clinical Staff, and provides customer service to patients, patients' families, visitors, physicians, coworkers, and other medical and non-medical personnel.
Responsibilities:
Correctly transcribes physician's orders into mainframe using appropriate forms.
Knows emergency codes (i.
e.
fire and code 3) and calmly announces.
Makes charts and keeps charts supplied with forms and replenishes as needed.
Coordinates scheduling, needed follow-ups, and referrals for patients.
Demonstrates the ability to handle confidential information with discretion for the patient, family, and/or co-worker.
Makes needed copies of chart when patients is transferred or discharged.
Follows policies related to informed consent, confidentiality, patient rights, and access to chart and advances directive information.
Assist in answering phone calls to provide assistance to patients, referring physician offices, and others who may call; transfers calls to appropriate personnel and/or takes messages.
Demonstrates the ability to handle confidential information with discretion for the patient, family, and/or co-worker.
Adheres to legal responsibilities and does not alter medical records.
Performs basic clerical duties such as filing, mailing, faxing, and copying.
Assist in ordering office and medical supplies as requested.
Demonstrates courtesy and respect towards patients and family members.
Communicates clearly and appropriately with physician and physician assistant, and office manager.
Performs chart audits bi-weekly.
Keeps medication sheet current and accurate.
Assist with out of town clinics to ensure all supplies are taken to clinic.
Calls patients day before appointment to confirm.
Receives payments from patients and distributes receipts.
Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.
Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position.
Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
Attends all mandatory education programs.
Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
Manages resources effectively.
Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment.
Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED OTHER INFORMATION:
One (1) year of hospital or nursing home experience preferred.
Medical Assistant certification preferred.
